Collection: Art by Jesse Ortiz

Hi, my name is Jesse Ortiz. I have been incarcerated for seven and a half years, and I have also been drawing for seven and a half years.

Art has become one of the main ways I cope with everyday life while incarcerated. Before I came to prison, I had never really picked up a pencil to draw and never imagined it would become such an important part of my life.

In a strange way, I am grateful that during my incarceration I discovered a skill and passion I may never have found otherwise. Art has given me something positive to focus on, and it has truly changed my life.

I try to draw for at least three hours every day. When I am released, I hope to continue growing as an artist and begin working with canvases and painting.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my artwork and my story.
